This weekend Rice University commemorated its centennial and celebrated its international successes in education and research. As part of the centennial, a strobe light and sound performance developed by Urban Screen was performed with great fan fare at the Rice Academic Quadrangle.
This image was taken at the performance at the instant where the new technology for profiling diseases developed in our laboratory shown in the center was featured. Alongside the new mini sensor system is whole blood sample from which health signatures are extracted. The hands cusping the diagnostic chip are those of my co-worker who helped to developed the technology. She passed away a few weeks after she defended her thesis in this area. Her contribution will never be forgotten.
Glen Simmons provided the image of the chip and Dwight Romanovicz took the electron micrograph image of the whole blood.
Many thanks to my co-workers who make this happen.
