If you ever have the opportunity to be taken on a ranger-ledd bush walk in The Kruger National Park, take it. We left early in the morning from Lower Sabie Restcamp and drove out into the bush off road, before walking out into the bush. This herd of Cape Buffalo stood as we neared them (we deliberately skirted them, rather than walk at them) and then advanced towards us as we sttod still and watched. Our armed rangers seemed fairly relaxed and the herd stopped once they had sussed us out, but then followed us as we walked on. Eventually they decided they had better places to go and from a further vantage point we watched as the filed across the bush, a line of 120 Cape Buffalo. It was awesome to be so close to such potentially dangerous animals, with nothing between us and them and simply trusting in the knowledge and experience of our rangers. Certainly had the adrenalin pumping for a while.
