The new Canon pinch caps cost two to three times as much as competing lens caps, but they are probably also the best. The threads on the jaws are half a thread deeper than most. The pinch tabs are wide and deep. The cap is slightly thicker than normal to accommodate the deep pinch tabs. At the same time, the spring on the inside is thinner than the others, so the center has greater clearance from the front element.
Not surprisingly, I replaced the Zeiss lens caps as soon as I got the lens. The Zeiss ones are probably the worst that I have ever used. There is little to grab onto and the slight outward bulge in the center is less stable when then lens is placed front element side down.
