Get off of my Lawn!

It's no secret that there is a quite well defined hierarchy on African Kills. Cheetahs have to eat quickly as there are many threats out there that can easily take it from them.

Leopards don't have it quite so bad, but there is a reason they quickly drag their kill into a tree.

But of course the lions have it all to themselves for the most part. Hyenas, jackals, and vultures will hang around waiting their turn, but mostly they have to wait for their chance.

In this case, the lions had abandoned the kill so the aforementioned hyenas, jackals, and vultures were having their fill.

But their is still a hierarchy in place. Now the hyena is king of the hill, absent the lions, and he is having none of any pesky jackals grabbing his prize. He didn't even have the decency to wipe the blood and gore off his face before chasing his neighbor off his claim.

Surprisingly, just as we were about to leave, a large lioness came charging out the the bush and reclaimed the kill; startling everyone including us.
