The old and the new road
….A few hours later we were on Ruta 40 in Argentina. I should note getting here was not without its own hiccup. At the border control we were turned away because Argentina now charges a 160USD reciprocity fee (as of early January) but they don't have the ability to issue said fee in Argentina. So we had to go back to Chile and beg for internet at the customs station. Also, we had lots of fruit and honey in the car. I wasn't willing to give it up so I "smuggled" it into Argentina. NOTE: Ruta 40 is in construction. To the right in this picture is a WONDERFUL paved road which we were not "supposed" to drive on. It was torture to be on the horror dirt road when that paved road existed. But it would just randomly end and you would be stuck if on it.
