Roxbury Community Apiary August 2013 - 0001

The community of Roxbury, NJ has taken active steps to increase community building and create awareness of environmental issues by maintaining a community garden. This year an apiary (a collection of honey bees - Apis mellifera) was installed at the garden. The most primary functions are to aid the pollination of the flowers and vegetables in the garden and to increase awareness of the population about the challenges facing the entire honeybee species. The apiary provides two bee suits onsite so that people can get up close with the bees under the direction of either of the two beekeepers.

The sign and viewing area were installed by Ed Quinn and his fellow Boy Scouts.
