Near misses

My optimistic attempt to lock focus on a rapidly approaching delightful little canine creature. Looks like focus is about a cm or two behind the eyes. Shooting CH 7fps, but focus took too long to lock on (with shutter only firing once lock achieved), so by the time I managed to get this frame off, extremities got chopped.

 

The nerd in me wonders if the 80-200 f/2.8 would have been a better choice. Don't have enough experience of the differences between the Sigma HSM on the 100-300 vs Nikon screwdrive AF on the 80-200. The shorter focal length of the 80-200 does make for tidier framing though.
