Empty Vessels
This cluster of ripened pods belongs to the Lagerstroemia, better known as the Crape myrtle. Each year, the fruits dry up and split open to release their seeds, leaving a distinct hollow shell.
These particular vessels and their mother tree inhabit my backyard. As I departed for some last minute shopping on Christmas Eve, I was capitvated by the late afternoon sun, bathed in a foggy mist... and this photo ensued!
I applied a warm bleach bypass filter in Dfx to get that super-hot-i-mean-radiating-with-heat-sun effect.
