the bealey valley and arthurs pass township

a highway (left of the river) and a railway (right and bridge) use the bealey valley to reach first the village and then arthur's pass to the west coast. This view gives the human structures more context than most records (?).

 

There are at least ten more valleys of similar size or larger east and west of this photo (on this side of the divide and still within the one national park) .
