Captain Kidd's hiding place
Kidd continues to make news. Christine Svenningsen has recently spent $33 million buying up tiny islands in Long Island Sound where Kidd is also rumored to have buried treasure. In the late 1990’s, Christine Svenningsen, whose late husband, John, was the president of the party goods manufacturer Amscan, caused a stir by buying entire islands; she now owns five. In 2003, she bought four — including Phelps Island, which has no houses, for $1,000, and Rogers Island, which included four buildings, for $22.3 million.
