Kitchen Island, After
I really wish I'd taken a "Before" shot! This was a spontaneous cleanup project because all of our depleted spice bottles ended up here so I'd remember to go buy more spices. And I never did... so more and more gathered, and other clutter gathered around them, until the big cleanup. Even better, none of the clutter got displaced: we found new homes for everything.
The seed of all this clutter? A fruit bowl, pepper grinder, and salt pig. So now the rule is NOTHING gets to live here. Now we have a food prep counter again! It's parallel to the stove and kitty corner to the sink and fridge, so very handy. Also, it's big enough that both of us can work on it at once.
This was a cheap Cost Plus kitchen island that admirably filled in the big gap in the center of our kitchen, and provided lots of useful storage. We added hooks to it for potholders and towels. And then the clutter struck....
