Streaking North
One of the Gresley streamlined A4 Pacifics is the star of Reginald Mayes's poster publicising British Railways' Queen of Scots Pullman service between London King's Cross and Glasgow Queen Street. Note the tartan six foot. Earlier in his career, Mayes (1901-92) had been chief staff artist at the LMS's PR department. Ironically, one of his tasks during the Second World War entailed producing posters discouraging rail travel. Mayes also worked for London Transport.
