The present Peebles Rugby Club were formed in 1923. An earlier club, of the same name, existed between 1879 and 1900. Peebles run two, occasionally three, open age XVs and have a thriving junior section. Joining the National League set-up in 1974, Peebles were placed in Division Five East. Three promotions saw the club reach Division One by 2003. They currently operate in Division Two of the BT National League after relegation in 2016. Graeme Beveridge is Peebles' most-capped international. After starting his career at The Gytes, the scrum-half played as a professional for Edinburgh Gunners, Glasgow Warriors and Bristol, representing the senior Scotland team on eight occasions between 2000 and 2006.
