Wander Beyond
Walking up a creek from the Annapolis River, I spotted this little log cabin through the trees. Too small to reside by any estimation, just a shelter for the sake of nature all around. I used to think a lot about me without people, reading books and watching documentaries about remote homesteading. It seemed appealing at a time when I wasn't fitting in. Then my mindset started shifting with the realization that I rarely encountered anyone anyway. Who needs to be surrounded by a thousand miles of wilderness when most any woods are empty year around? Isolation is wonderfully in reach all over, filled with a collection of creatures and natural states that lie in wait without much searching. Time has taught me that few folks ever wander beyond their back yards. Like a deer bounding by, I'm the nervous creature some just might chance to see.
