Nutrition emergency in Nigeria

A mother measures the temperature of her child as she is tested for malnutrition at the Action Against Hunger mobile clinic.

Children suffer the most when conflict deprives them from the food and nutrients they need to grow and develop. Their still-developing bodies are more vulnerable to the strain of the shock, and their condition deteriorates rapidly. An estimated 400 000 children suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition in northeast Nigeria, according to UNICEF. Without adequate treatment, approximately 20% of those children are likely to die.
