About 80% of Cambodia's land lies within the Mekong basin, with large fluctuations of water levels between dry and wet seasons. This caused annual cycle of droughts and floods, damaging crop production and livelihoods and constraining development and poverty alleviation. This project, targeting flood- and drought-prone provinces, aimed to support vulnerable communities to improve coping strategies and strengthen support given to communities from institutional structures. It also encouraged the integration of disaster risk reduction elements into primary school curriculum.
