World Humanitarian Day: Let's honour humanitarians!
In 2013, over 450 humanitarian workers were victims while trying to help people in need. The figures are appalling:
On average, every week more than 3 humanitarians were attacked and wounded every week.
More than 10 humanitarians were kidnapped every month.
And more than 12 were killed each month just for coming to people's aid.
We call and will continue to call for the respect of International Humanitarian Law in every country – humanitarians are there to aid, not to be targeted. We call on Europe and the world to pay tribute to their work – let's honour humanitarians.
