Fredericksburg: Pioneer Museum - Kammlah Barn

To celebrate Valentine's Day, Mike and I booked a weekend getaway to Fredericksburg. On our first morning in town, we paid a visit to the Pioneer Museum (325 W. Main St). The museum complex features 10 historic buildings, including the Kammlah Barn. Here, you can see some machinery and implements displayed inside the stone barn.

 

A few details on the homestead and barn according to the brochure we received onsite:

 

Kammlah Homestead

In its original location on Main Street, the Kammlah Homestead includes the house, smokehouse, and barn. The Kammlahs were among the early Germans to settle in Fredericksburg. Four generations lived in the house. The Kammlah Homestead became the nucleus of the Pioneer Museum when the Gillespie County Historical Society purchased it in 1955.

 

Kammlah Barn

It is believed the Kammlah family's barn was built between 1855 and 1880. A chicken house, clothesline, and a large family garden once stood on this site.
