Dark Turn

This ominous cloud came out of nowhere on an otherwise bright overcast day right before the Hornell Turn passed through. It foreshadowed the crew’s trouble, as the lead engine would cut out at least three times before the crew finally had enough and took it off line. The engineer had to operate the two remaining units from the second locomotive while the conductor stayed in the lead unit to spot and blow the horn for the many grade crossings on this line.
