"hand of god"?

i'm hoping the subject of this photo makes up for the composition problems.

in the background is asama mountain. it's an active volcano located on the border of gunma and nagano prefectures. on a clear day (like monday) we can see it from ota. as i was taking sunset picture (which i am too often doing), i noticed that asama was as usual blowing off steam, and that there seemed to be some strange cloud activity around the mountain. (on cold days the bigger mountains around here seem to "grab" clouds and even create their own weather). as the sun set and the air grew colder, the cloud that asama had "grabbed" or created was suddenly (suddenly for a cloud anyway) flung high into the sky. this all happened over no more than 30 minutes. and to give a bit of perspective, the mountian itself is about a mile and a bit (just shy of 2 kilometers) high. as i watched, the cloud jumped about 3 miles up and swirled around to join the clouds above. what a show!
