On March 28 and 29, 2015, English Language Fellow, Rebekah Gordon, hosted an essay contest in tandem with the U.S. Consulate General Chengdu and the Chongqing Public Library to celebrate Women’s History Month. The purpose of the event was to educate local high school students on the significance of various women’s contributions to society as well as refine their academic writing skills. The participants included 100 students from ten different high schools in Chongqing. The students had been self-selected or selected by their school to participate in the event. Before attending the event, the students were given biographies about Amy Tan, Liu Tee Shu, and Helen Zia to provide them with relevant background information.
