Future Driftwood
The West Coast of North America has the ideal conditions for creating driftwood: onshore breezes, favorable ocean currents, substantial forests, high precipitation and large rivers. The precipitation allows for source material (trees) to grow in abundance. Once trees die or are washed into rivers, they are carried downstream to the salt water where currents and winds wash them back on shore. People in the Pacific Northwest take driftwood for granted. However, globally speaking, it is not a particularly common component of beaches.
