Protection

This is an hdr image of an interior of one of the many bunkers are Fort Rodd Hill, an 1868 installation built to protect Victoria from marauding pirates and other threats. The stone walls of the interiors were striking for their lack of symmetry, interesting textures, odd curves and unexpected crannies and nooks.

I think this is a good example of the uses of HDR for conventional-looking images. You can't get this image with a single exposure. The light and detail on the inside of the walls is visible at the same time as the detail on the walls at the top of the stairs only because of the blending. A single shot would either be seriously blown out upstairs or dark as night downstairs. Processing a RAW file for fill light might yield a similar result, but it would likely be noisy in the darker areas.
