times past

The 12th of January was the traditional date for New Year in the old-style calendar and used to be celebrated, even in recent years, in parts of Gaelic-speaking Scotland. Today’s winter sunshine walk in Skye took us to the deserted village of Leitir Fura with its ruins standing in poignant isolation and a solitary holly tree can be seen growing out of the remains of one of the former 19th century homes.
