multi-hued Phragmites
Phragmites australis, exotic, invasive (we don't have the native subspecies in NYC). I don't know the significance behind that tawny and burgundy infructescences. Environmental factors? Typical phenotypic variation? Either way, it's undeniably lovely here. (don't tell anyone I said that!). Dubos Point, Queens
