Twin Sons of Different Mothers 1816
In the cool umbra of an old acacia three lion cubs bed down for a short afternoon nap. Although they certainly act like brothers and sisters, there is no easy way to know if they are actually siblings. Lionesses will give birth to their cubs privately, apart from the pride. They will keep their young concealed for weeks afterward, sometimes leaving them alone for hours at a time. Eventually, they introduce their new cubs to the pride. The females gather together and care for them, sharing responsibilities. Cubs may nurse from a number of different lactating females. It is customary for most, if not all of the young to share the same father. He is usually the king of the pride. Many of the females, however, are also related, since most female lions grow up and stay with the pride, while males generally move off as they mature. So being brothers and sisters within a pride, is more about being part of a community than it is about being pure blood. It's something that seems to work out purrrfectly! #iLoveNature #iLoveWildlife #Wildlife in #Tanzania #Nature in #Africa #Lions #LionCubs #DrDADBooks #Canon #WildlifeConservation.
