Ready to spring

Male Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis). This is probably the most common pond dragonfly in my area during the summer season. This male's wings are locked in a downward position where he has built up and stored energy in the connective tissue in his thorax so that in a split second he can spring from his perch on passing prey.
