The newly-arrived Embraer is one of a dozen of this model to be operated by Republic Airways as Midwest Connect under a new service agreement that took effect October 1, 2008. In light of this agreement, Midwest has disposed of all its remaining MD-80-type jets and all but nine of its fairly recently acquired Boeing 717s. The agreement has angered many as several hundred Midwest employees will be “temporary furloughed” and replaced with Republic Airways flight and maintenance crews. According to Midwest, the furlough will last eight to twelve months until Midwest is able to operate this type of aircraft on its own FAA operating certificate. 30 October 2008
