A peek through a ruin's door

The church as Jesús de Tavarangue or Jesus for short was never completed. It now stands as an empty shell as a reminder of the Jesuits attemt to create an utopian society in South America.

 

The stairs here are leading up to what would have been the upper level of the church.

 

The ruin is located on a grassy field which is a nice contrast to the red-orange stone that the ruin is built of. The ruins at Jesus are considered the best preserved of all the jesuit ruins in South America and are along with a few other ones inscribed as a world heritage by UNESCO.

You could watch this Large On Black since that brings out more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format. the large version is a sixth of the original - The medium size shown here even smaller...
