In this area we saw lots of these crucifixes or other statues of Mary or saints, watching over the vineyards. Some were quite elaborate while others were just simple shrines.
The D2 is a highway extending north out of Bordeaux (city) through the major wine growing area. Along the D2 you’ll find all the big, famous wine chateaus such as Margaux, the Rothschilds and others. Tasting or touring these wineries is by appointment only and plans must be made months in advance. Our plan was just to see what we could of them so we wouldn’t have to be on any sort of schedule.
