Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home Marker (Jackson, Mississippi)
The Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument, also known as Medgar Evers House, is an historic house museum at 2332 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive on the northwest side of Jackson. Built in 1956, the house was the home of African American civil rights activist Medgar Evers (1925-1963) at the time of his assassination. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2017. The house was designated a national monument, established in 2020, after the National Park Service acquired it from Tougaloo College.
Medgar Wiley Evers was an American civil rights activist and the NAACP's first field secretary in Mississippi who was assassinated in the driveway of this house by a white supremacist in June of 1963.
