Old Green County Courthouse Tower (Monroe, Wisconsin)

This fine old Romanesque courthouse was erected in the year 1891 with the designs of architect C. S. Mansfield. W. J. McAlpen was its builder. When I talk about the good courthouses of Wisconsin, this is one that comes to mind. Today this structure no longer houses the Green County courts, but it still serves the county in a governmental and administrative capacity. The current Green County Courthouse is located on the east side of town.

The edifice was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Monroe is a lovely community located just north of Illinois to the southwest of Madison.
