Old Randall County Courthouse (Canyon, Texas)
This courthouse has been replaced by a newer structure located just to the southeast. This one was built in 1909 and was designed by Robert G. Kirsch, and an addition was added to its north side in 1957. This structure once had a small clock tower that was most likely removed because of damage caused by a West Texas storm.
In recent years, plans have been made to restore this old courthouse to its original grandeur. As of February 2010, the tower has now been reconstructed on its roof, but scaffolding encompassed the exterior as late as early March of 2010. Plans are underway to tear down the addition on the north side of the building once the renovation is complete. It is my understanding that it will be complete on the outside within the year, yet the inside will take more time. I haven't heard what this structure will be used for once it is restored, but it is all a part of the downtown Canyon revitalization effort. If anyone has any information regarding the progress of the restoration here, please feel free to comment.
I plan to pay Canyon a visit once the whole thing is polished and pretty on the outside.
