On our first day, we were taking the shuttlebus around to various vista points. At one point a vigorous thunderstorm broke out over the canyon. I tried timing the lightning flashes, but didn't manage to catch one. The clouds did make for a dramatic view. And then the rain hit our side of the canyon. We were dressed for August weather and suddenly it was cold and wet, and we had to wait forever to get a shuttlebus to take us back. It's something I could have easily lived with, but the wife wasn't pleased. Evidently, she expected me to plan the weather better.
