Belvoir Farms stormwater pond retrofit in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Atlantic white cedar grows in a former stormwater pond that has been retrofitted into a regenerative stormwater conveyance with integrated stream and wetland habitat at the Belvoir Farms community in Crownsville, Md., on May 23, 2025. The roughly $577,000 project was partially funded by the Chesapeake Bay Program through a $75,000 Small Watershed Grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. It created and enhanced habitat, sequesters carbon, improves water quality, mitigates flooding, provides resilience to the effects of climate change, and demonstrates the potential for restoration in communities with similar clay core dams.
