H-2B visa workers plant trees in Frederick County, Maryland

Erly Martinez, originally from Guatemala, pounds a wooden stake into place to support a plastic tree shelter while managing his crew from Shenandoah Habitats at a dairy farm in Jefferson, Md., on April 15, 2024. The crew, operating under H-2B visas, was contracted by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and planted 3.2 acres of riparian forest buffer along a stream on the farm in addition to hundreds of trees on two other properties the same day.
