inside the cab of the ЧС2-023, Czechoslavakia-built d.c. 3kV electric passenger locomotive by Škoda (Series 25E0, 34E0--E4, 53E0--E9) on exposition in the Russian railways museum in St Petersburg
After the testing of the Škoda 25E0 DC electric locomotive in the USSR in 1958 and the further development of the improved series, the locomotives were built at Škoda (Пльзеньский завод им. В. И. Ленина, Plzeň Lenin Works) from 1962 to 1973 for the railroads of the Soviet Union. A total of 942 series Škoda 34E0--E4, 53E0--E9 were delivered, which received the designation ЧС2 (ChS2 - Czecho-Slovak type 2) and numbers ЧС2-001-874 and 877-944.
With the ChS2-232 (type 53E0) the factory series, designated 53E, began. This locomotive was equipped with a rheostat brake.
On the basis of the 53E series after a number of modifications, including an improved scheme of rheostatic braking, more powerful traction engines AL-4846dT instead of AL-4846eT, which increased the total power from 4200 to 4620 kW and a new body was developed model 63E (Škoda 63E1---E2), CS2T built in number of 120 from 1972 in two series received the factory designation of type 63E1 (No. 945-1024), the second - 63E2 (No. 1025-1062).
ChS2T became the basic locomotive for running fast trains (not more than 22 cars) on the Oktyabrskaya Railway (OZhD) and maintained a 7-hour schedule between St. Petersburg and Moscow (with a train of not more than 16 cars).
