Rupture

Based on a macro photo of tropical tree bark, my objective with "Rupture" was to emphasize the mystery, the colors and textures...to create an organic abstract piece. I was intrigued by the hole in the bark with the stringy fibers hanging over it. As the painting developed, it looked more like stone and that just added to the abstract quality of the piece.

Painted with acrylics and layers and layers of glazed colors over selected areas of fine pumice medium as well as heavy gel medium on an 18 x 24" cradled birch plywood, "Rupture" is a contemporary, unframed thick painting.
