What Might Have Been
Day 54 of 365
On they way home from work today I heard a song on the radio that I haven't heard in a long long time. It's one of those songs that when you hear it you start to think back or at least that is the way it effects me. Don't get me wrong here, I love Kathy and the life we have together. We laugh, we cry, we fight, and we make up. We have our ups and downs. Basically, we live and it is a good life to live.
Thinking back on "What Might Have Been" isn't due to a lack of respect or love for Kathy, but rather just ponderings of an inquisitive mind. I am still friends with all of my X's and I care for each and every one of them. Without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. The ups and downs I had with them and the lessons I learned in those relationships all helped to make me the man I am today. My past is my past, and I look back on it fondly, but I carry a part of that past with me now and into the future.
There are several songs that bring these memories to the forefront of my mind and others that remind me of one particular person or event from long ago. Songs are funny that way. Trisha Yearwood's The Song Remembers When" probably sums that up better than any words I could use to describe it (a fantastic song and also one that brings forth these very memories I am speaking of).
The song I heard today that prompted this self-portrait was by Little Texas and (in case you couldn't get it from the title of this picture) is called What Might Have Been
Sure I think about you now and then
But it's been a long long time
I've got a good life now I've moved on
So when you cross my mind
I try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
We could sit and talk about this all night long
And wonder why we didn't last
Yes they might be the best days
We will ever know
But we'll have to leave them in the past
So try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
That same old look in your eyes
It's a beautiful night
I'm so tempted to stay
But too much time has gone by
We should just say goodbye
And turn and walk away
And try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
No we'll never know
What might have been
