Red-Spotted Newt

We had a visitor to our patio this morning. This eastern newt or red-spotted newt (Notophthalmus viridescens) posed quite nicely on a piece of local Danby marble. This is actually the SAME species as the aquatic newt that I posted earlier. They spend their infancy as an aquatic nymph, then leave the water as an "eft," which has this bright orange/red color. As an adult, they return to the water with a new complexion - greenish-grey with the bright yellow underbelly. This is the adult from earlier.
