Chasing certain British Airways Boeing 747-400's have proven to be easy, and sometimes difficult... Trying to find, or get a decent image of the last Oneworld logo-jet has proven to be a tough task.
A long standing route for British Airways is their daily London Heathrow to São Paulo-Guarulhos flight (BA246/247). During the S15 schedule, the flight operated 10 times a week... However, the route fell victim to the ongoing economic and diplomatic crisis in Brazil. The route went back to daily during the W15, and also saw Hi-J Boeing 747-400's replaced by Mid-J Boeing 747-400's.
Since 10th August 2016 (3 days before this photo was taken), BA246/247 saw 4-class Boeing 777-200ER's take-over, and have remained on the route ever since. From 29th October 2017, the route will be up-gauged to Boeing 777-300ER operation. So not a Boeing 747, but is close enough to the capacity that it once had...
British Airways currently have 36 Boeing 747-400's in service... Next withdrawals take place from 2018. The running down of the fleet will mainly concentrate with 18 Mid-J configured examples, with 18 Super Hi-J configured examples expected to leave towards the end of the current decade.
Charlie India Victor Papa is one of 36 Boeing 747-400's in service with British Airways, delivered new to the flag-carrier in February 1998 and she is powered by 4 Rolls-Royce RB211-524H engines. Since new; she carried Irish-inspired, Colum World Tail designed by Timothy O'Neill. She was repainted into BA's standard Chatham Dockyard Union Jack livery in April 2003 and became the first Boeing 747 to gain Oneworld logo-jet colours in January 2009.
