#08 -- Dayeon

This is Dayeon (I hope that's spelled right) and she is from Korea. I was wandering around aimlessly, not particularly looking for someone to photograph, when I saw her sitting for a caricature portrait, her friend waiting next to her. I stopped to watch for a few moments and in that time the drawing was finished and handed over to Dayeon who burst out laughing when she saw it. I thought it was really cute, and I also liked her brightly coloured coat that stood out from afar and was the reason I noticed her in the first place.

I have been sitting on this photo for about two weeks now... I wasn't sure if I should post it or not, because I don't think it turned out that well. The background, which at the time I had thought would look nice and colourful, is actually distracting, and I'm not happy with the framing either (this is a cropped version, the original is even worse). And what is flickr doing with oversharpening photos?! Dayeon, if you're reading this - it's not your fault at all! It was just quite rushed. I tried to spice it up with some editing but in the end I didn't want an overprocessed look either so I stuck with some basic tweaks.

Still, despite these issues I have decided that this project is not about amazing photos, it's a learning curve and when I look back I will be more proud of the good photos if there are some not so good ones in the set. And it's also a nice memory of a random encounter with a nice person.
