South Polar Layers (THEMIS_IOTD_20230120a)
This VIS image shows part of the south polar cap. The cap is comprised of layers of ice and dust deposited over millions of years. The bottom half of the image is part of a polar chasma, revealing the surface beneath the ice cap. This image was collected near the end of summer.
