Co Loa, Viet Nam - An Duong Vong Temple.
Entrance, An Duong Vong Temple.
Co Loa is an ancient Citadel dating from about the 3rd Century BC - the oldest fortified town in VietNam and its capital around AD 940. Not much remains apart from two very old and very interesting temples and the vestiges of earthen ramparts. Co Loa is now a thoroughly rural and peaceful village only 20 Km or so from the centre of Ha Noi. It is a bit tricky to get to requiring 2 bus trips (or a single trip by hired car, of course) but well worth the effort.
