Peoria, IL Bergners downtown [3] in 1993
The old Bergner's in downtown Peoria. It closed in 1986 when the new store opened at Sheridan Village in the suburbs. Looking at the current aerial this was demolished at some point after 1993 for a parking structure. It was kind of a cool looking building. I took all of these photos in 1993 for a urban planning paper I was writing on the death of the downtown and the soon to be death of the shopping mall.
Bergner's eventually purchased Carson Pirie Scott. Proffitt's eventually purchased Bergner's. And now Bergner's is owned by the Bon-Ton.
