Just emulating someone else
It's said by someone somewhere that the greatest form of flattery is imitation. Well I guess I'm flattering one of my contacts. He has his style down pat. Each of his photos has that dusty brown look of a rembrandt painting. I kind of like it. So I spent a little time imitating it, just for fun.
what I did was this. I started with the previously edited photo here: www.flickr.com/photos/algengler/4017039923/
I use Select > Color range for midtones and then for shadows and darkened them. When I had the selection I went into quickmask and blurred them to make better tonal transitions.
I added a hue/sat adjustment layers and lowered the REDS a bit.
I went to channels panel command/control + clicked the RGB channel getting a luminence selection. I inverted that selection, went into quickmask and blurred it a bit. and then with the selection still there I added a solid color adjustment layer and picked a brown. I put it in multiply blending mode and reduced opacity to taste.
Then I ran Topaz Labs DETAIL, one of my favorite plugins, to boost small detail.
