Denver & Rio Grande Western eastbound Rio Grande Zephyr, led by EMD F9A locomotive # 5771, has just pulled out of the station at 7:20 AM in Salt Lake City, Utah, bound Denver, Colorado, Summer 1980. The weather conditions sure were not ideal for photography this morning and then it started to rain while on the trip. With Kodachrome 64, my F1.4 brightest lens, using a lower shutter speed than I liked, along with the train movement and vibration, this was about the best I could do at the time to capture this image. This is one of those photography situations that today is mostly solved by the use of digital cameras with sensors that work well under low light conditions to produce fine images. That large brick building on the left is a Purity Biscuit Company facility in Salt Lake City.
