Civitas Trajectum, Civitas Marianum (Maastricht/NL)

Civitas Trajectum, Civitas Marianum.

.

Translated: "City of Tricht, City of Maria" reads the Latin text on the column. The Mariamonument reminds that Maastricht was a Marian city. It is also called Mariazuil or monument of the bishops of Maastricht. On top of the 14 m high column is a bronze statue of Mary, standing on the crescent moon and with the baby Jesus on her arm. At the foot of the column are the four most famous of the partly legendary 21 holy bishops of Maastricht: Servatius, Monulfus, Lambertus and Hubertus. Beautiful monument that shows how strong faith was connected to Maastricht.
