Relative MPG of Vehicles
Here's my cleaned-up version of this graphic from Good Magazine. I got three insights:
1. Car pooling is awesome! Car pooling can turn the MPG per person of an SUV from worse than a cruise ship to better than a single-occupancy hybrid!
And car pooling in a hybrid turns a hybrid into some crazy super car that is almost as efficient as walking! And car pooling requires no investment. You can do it tomorrow!
2. Commercial airplanes get pretty good MPG per person-- better than a hybrid with only the driver in it. (But because you can't drive your car 3000 miles per day, it still uses a lot of fuel.)
3. Bicycles are awesome! Not only is a bicycle's MPG more than three times better than any other vehicle, it is the only vehicle that provides aerobic exercise.
