Helophilus pendulus (m)

A 'footballer' hoverfly (based on the striped thorax) resting on an ivy leaf on the margins of Burton Marsh. The hind tibia is clearly displayed and is about 50% dark begging the question as to whether this is H. hybridus. However, it's a male (eye sides parallel) and the black bar across the abdomen reaches the edge confirming it's H. pendulus.
